As we have said before, Spring simply
would not be Spring without our favorite garden artists showing here at
CAVU Cellars.
Beverly Nash and Lynn Woolson will be joined this year by
Robin Leventhal.
In Robin’s series, the perilous balance of life and decay, intertwined
by divine veneration are explored.
Please join us for another truly incredible show.

Artist’s
statement:
“Ring the
bell that still can ring, forget your perfect offering, there is a crack
in everything, that’s how the light gets in.” (Leonard Cohen) We are
fragile beings, imperfect from the start. Our vulnerabilities highlight
our humanness and invite us to discover light in the midst of darkness.
The act of
breaking glass and china is incorporated into symbolic customs across
the globe. These traditions, which often take place before or during
weddings, are believed to ward off evil or bring good luck.
In the spirit
of these sentiments and in the tradition of Pique Assiette or “Plate
Thievery,” I survey my colorful collection of china, jewelry,
memorabilia, beads, and baubles and begins to break and cut. Sometimes I
start with an image or an idea and sometimes the piece evolves from a
kernel of curiosity.
I savor the
process of assembling the three-dimensional collages. Repurposing and
puzzling together broken, cast-off, or prized possessions into creations
with new identities, the past lives of these pieces are honored and
infused with new radiance, joy, and memory.
